In 2014 one of Germany’s preeminent arts foundations invited Heine/Lenz/Zizka to express its new attitude in a corporate design.
We developed a visual identity and communication strategy that boldly presents to the outside world what is already lived experience on the inside: the foundation is opening up and offering a stage to the projects it supports. Not a rigid and restrictive one, but one that is flexible and supportive. In doing so, the foundation is breaking with expectations and showing the courage to be demanding, inconvenient, and open to experimentation. Our strategic process culminated in a communication solution that arouses amazement and invites its audience on a voyage of discovery.
We’ve given Kunststiftung NRW a face that exerts a powerful fascination and can be easily translated to new media in the future. The visual identity is supported by a few essential pillars, but otherwise it deliberately leaves a great deal of freedom. The foundation opens a window – variable in color, form, and orientation – in order to give space to a great variety of content in the best possible way.
The initial contact is critical. With this unusual flyer, the foundation introduces its projects. The explanatory text is printed on the back in mirror image and shows through the sheer paper.
NAM JUNE PAIK AWARD
As an internationally famous media art award, the Nam June Paik Award is a major flagship project of Kunststiftung NRW. The artists’ works are placed in the spotlight, while the foundation stays in the background as a supporter. We designed all the media for the award, from the website and exhibition catalogue to the digital invitation.
FONDS EXPERIMENTELLES MUSIKTHEATER (EXPERIMENTAL MUSIC THEATER FUND)
The Fonds Experimentelles Musiktheater supports radical, experimental ideas, not finished projects. In the process, the fund, performance venues, and public all let themselves in, for art’s sake, for a high degree of uncertainty. Heine/Lenz/Zizka designed a website for this initiative.
