KinoweltTV is the first German pay-TV station to broadcast exclusively top-quality feature films.
Not only does KinoweltTV offer its subscribers great movies every day, there are also monthly retrospectives focusing on leading actors, directors, and stars of cinematic history. In addition to designing a logo for the company, our task was to communicate these services on the company’s website.
For KinoweltTV we foregrounded the (moving) image to create a visually stunning presence that draws the viewer into the whole cinematic experience; you feel as if you are actually sitting in a darkened cinema, and even the website’s typographical aesthetics are reminiscent of movie posters. You can almost smell the popcorn! All of these cinematic references are complemented by technical elements such as the innovative daily program bar.
The medium has become the message: instead of historicizing the cinematic experience, the unconventional formatting of the content helps to create a contemporary and appropriate framework that combines the old with the new. And the users certainly appear to be enthusiastic about the results: only a few weeks after taking the website live an industry survey showed that KinoweltTV had dramatically improved its market position.
