Caspar David Friedrich's painting Wanderer above the Sea of Fog is one of the most famous works of art ever created.
The painting, with the iconic figure from behind gazing over the sea of fog in Saxon Switzerland, is one of the most important works on display in the Hamburger Kunsthalle. It is therefore also known as the Mona Lisa of the North.
To mark the 250th anniversary of Caspar David Friedrich's birth, the work was to be made accessible to an even larger and younger audience.
Heine Lenz Zizka was commissioned to develop a digital form of presentation that would create immersive, interactive and didactic new approaches to this masterpiece of Romanticism.
To solve this task, we designed a vertically scrolling, multimedia narrative format based on the XPLAYNER technology we developed.
Art history texts are interwoven with images, videos, interaction fields and user-generated content to create a unique virtual art experience.
