Casper David Friedrich - The Timeline

Caspar David Friedrich is considered to be one of the most influential artists in Germany, who had a significant impact on the Romantic era in particular.

Against this background and on the occasion of the 250th anniversary of the artist's birth, the complete works of the artist were to be made visible and explorable in hitherto unknown completeness.

There are still many unanswered questions about the great master. Answers are suspected to lie in as yet unknown contexts of the works and in the historical context.

The Hamburger Kunsthalle, the Alte Nationalgalerie zu Berlin, the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden and the Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Information Technology FIT joined forces to bring the digital collections together in an online chronicle.

Heine Lenz Zizka was responsible for developing the visual design of this platform and supporting its implementation.

The intuitive user interface with extensive filter options and timeline allows users to browse Caspar David Friedrich's work at will. The works are accompanied by quotations, contemporary testimonies and accompanying information that allow users to immerse themselves in the Romantic era and the reality of Caspar David Friedrich's life.
